[/style] spottedfern Spottedfern had been having a crazy day thus far. First, while on a patrol to the edge of camp, she stumbled upon Frostfoot, ShadowCan's deputy and her friend, giving birth to kittens! She had been quite suspicious of the cat, noticing her grow larger, but she couldn't remember her being close to any of the ShadowClan toms, except for the one that passed away a while ago, so she assumed Frostfoot had just been gaining weight.
As Spottedfern arrived on the scene, Frostfoot had already given birth to one kit. The dark tortoiseshell she-cat was confused and going to get the medicine cat, but Frostfoot had refused the help. After all, if other cats knew that she had bore kits, let along who the mysterious father was, certainly bad things would follow. Spottedfern understood and was there for the she-cat as she delivered one more kit. Then she was done.
Promising Frostfoot to never tell a soul that she was the mother of these kits, she swore that she would bring them into camp and claim they were wild. There wasn't much more she could do, but she wished desperately to do anything for her friend.
And thus, she slowly made her way into camp. In her mouth lay a small bundle of fur, patches of red and white fur clinging to the mewling kit. Frostfoot had told her to name this cat Galekit, after the recently deceased Galepaw - Spottedfern was very proud of this and smiled when Frostfoot explained the name. Galekit writhed in Spottedfern's mouth, a confused young kitten. She turned her head to make sure Frostfoot was alright, and following her, with Galekit's sister, Moonkit, in her mouth.

Frostfoot was exhausted after the long, painful delivery of her kits. She had hidden in a clump of mushrooms and fungus to disguise her scent and had delivered one kit when Spottedfern arrived. She felt grateful to the tortoiseshell she-cat for keeping her secret, and she also felt she owed it to Spottedfern to tell who the father was. "Spottedfern." Frostfoot mewed just outside of camp. "I want you to know who the father was..." She paused to gather her thoughts. "The father of Galekit and Moonkit is... Stormstar, former leader of WindClan." Frostfoot sighed. She wasn't proud of what she had done with him that night, especially since these kits would probably never know their parents. But the she-cat was determined to be part of their lives nonetheless. The she-cat waited for a moment before picking up the wailing kit in front of her. Making her way into camp, Frostfoot's eyes were like the claws of TigerClan, daring any cat to question the kits she and her friend were carrying in. All she received were curious glances. The she-cat thought about the black medicine cat that had helped her with her delivery on the border while she was hunting solo. The medicine cat was none other than Smokepaw of WindClan. He kept muttering to himself as he helped with the deliver and kept whispering the name Hawkfur. Frostfoot didn't know who that was, but it was only Spottedfern, Frostfoot, and Smokepaw present.
Frostfoot pushed herself through the nursery, seeing it empty the she-cat made herself comfortable in a nest. She suckled her kits quietly to quiet their mews and they quickly fell asleep. Frostfoot looked at Spottedfern. "I shall give you borage leaves for milk. But I will also suckle them for a little bit." Her voice was weary with exhausted as Frostfoot slumped in her nest, falling asleep herself. She yawned widely. She licked her kits lovingly, her eyes brightening as they slipped into their own dreams. "Spottedleaf, I want to sleep with them tonight, will you sleep in here with me?" Frostfoot asked softly. She never took her eyes from her sleeping kits as she nuzzled them carefully. Moonkit whimpered but didn't wake. She was dreaming of darkness, a choking darkness, and the sounds of growls and snarls all around her. She whimpered as the night went on with the terrible dream all around you.

[/style] spottedfern Spottedfern stared in disbelief at her friend. She was shocked at Frostfoot's truth about the father of the kits, but was grateful that the she-cat trusted her enough to reveal it. She nodded her head in understanding, not daring to judge the deputy - not that she would have either. Frostfoot's business was her own. Spottedfern would always be there for the strong feline as a friend, and she wanted to help her with her kits in any way.
As they neared camp, Spottedfern followed Frostfoot into the nursery, Galekit dangling gently from her jaws. She placed the kitten in front of his mother, and he naturally moved forward, nuzzling toward her belly. Spottedfern looked on fondly at both kittens and mother.
"I'll let Crimsonstar know about the kits. I'll tell him we found them on the outskirts," she meowed, a bit flustered in front of her kind friend. After a moment, she gave her a warm smile and look. "I promise never to reveal your secret," her meow was sweet as she spoke the truth, staring on as mother and kits snuggled up together.
As Frostfoot cuddled up with the kittens for a slumber, Spottedfern felt glad to be asked to spend the night with them. She didn't want to leave them alone, especially when Frostfoot was so weak after giving birth to the kittens as well as having to carry them across their territory. She nodded to her friend, curling up nearby the gathered family.
"Of course I will, Frostfoot," she meowed to her as she made herself comfortable, watching the kittens with their mother. Galekit had snuggled up next to his sister in his mother's fur and let out a small snoring sound as he fell into a deep slumber. With one last smile at the group of cats, Spottedfern closed her eyes and let sleep come upon her.
