Cherrypaw woke up and stretched, though unlike her sister, she hadn't woken up in the apprentices' den, she'd woken up in the Medicine cat den, determined to follow her dream. Cherrypaw got up an headed over to Shadownose's nest, hoping she wouldn't wake her mentor up, she meowed, "Good morning, Shadownose! Is there any herb-gathering or something you need me to do?" The tabby she-cat's paws itched to run through Riverclan territory and learn what herb is found where. No! I have to stay calm, like Featherfur had always told me; "Medicine cats have to be able to keep their excitement inside, or it could be bad for the patient." Cherrypaw's excitement was suddenly gone as she thought about her mother, who's now in starclan. Looking up at the sky, she thought, I hope you're happy with the paths Blossompaw and I have each chosen... Cherrypaw's excitement returned at the thought of being able to meet her mother when she'd got to the Moonstone on the day of the half-moon. A breeze picked up, "Of course I'm happy with you two; you're my kits... Tell that to your sister, as well, Cherrypaw." Featherfur's voice sounded in Cherrypaw's ears. The breeze had gone and Featherfur's scent drifted with it. Cherrypaw purred happily, I can't wait to tell Blossompaw!
(It's okay that I had her mother say something, right?)

♦ ♀ Gentleheart. RiverClan Warrior ♦ [/sup] The day was young as the sun perched through the RiverClan camp clearing, casting shadows from rocks and bramble. The night before it has rained and so there was now dew on the leaves of weeds and herbs around camp - not to mention on some fur of early risers as well. It was nice to get some rain once in a while to cool down from the normal humidity that comes with Greenleaf. Almost all of the cats were quite pleasant this morning due to the weather, except for one.
Gentleheart walked slowly to the Medicine Cat's den, a scowl on her face. She didn't like to be up this early, truthfully, and especially did not like her circumstances. As she padded across the camp, every cat could see what foolish task she had done, for one paw was lifted in the air. In that paw stuck a very large thorn from a thicket in the warriors' den, no doubt. She hated to admit it, and believe me she wouldn't unless provoked, but this morning was certainly not a favorite for her. When she woke up, due to the rainy weather, she slipped and he paw skidded into the wall of thorns and thicket and a very large thorn punctured her right foreleg pad. Of course this was extremely painful and anyone in the warriors' den had certainly heard her yowl of pain - possibly all the apprentices as well!
Ashamed, Gentleheart approached the den to get assistance in her unfortunate matter at 'hand.' Of course, Gentleheart was quite prideful and had told herself that she would not tell Shadownose what had truly happened, no matter how much he pestered her. She still had her wits about her!
"Cherrypaw?" her smooth-sounding meow came out of the grey-and-white she-cat mouth as she gazed around the den. "Where's Shadownose?" Her meow was still light and soft, as it always was; there was no embarrassment in her tone, at least yet.

"I think he's still sleep-" Cherrypaw's mew was cut off as she looked at Gentleheart, who was walking with a paw in the air. Trotting over to the warrior, Cherrypaw asked, "What happened?" Examining the paw closer, Cherrypaw pounded Gentleheart with questions, "Is that a rock? Were you cleaning out nests? Did you step on it outside when you were getting moss for the nests? Were you outside of camp, or something?" The young she-cat had excitement building up within her, My first patient as a medicine cat apprentice! She thought, although she tried her best not to let any excitement show; as, of course, a medicine cat shouldn't be happy that another cat of their clan is sick or hurt.

♦ ♀ Gentleheart. RiverClan Warrior ♦ [/sup] Gentleheart stepped back a moment in shock as the medicine cat apprentice took off into an interrogation. She was definitely Shadownose's apprentice - that was for sure! Gentleheart hesitated, swallowing saliva as she felt herself get hot with embarrassment. She definitely couldn't reveal that she had slipped on rainwater in the warriors' den - that was much too embarrassing for the quaint she-cat. She shook herself gently, pondering for a moment and trying to collect her thoughts.
As she stared at Cherrypaw, very eager to help her she knew, she felt flustered once again. Her head turned to her coat to pick at an imaginary tick that was suddenly so important to her.
"Oh, something like that," she murmured gently, picking at the fake tick once more in embarrassment. If they found out what she had done, she would never live this down; the warriors had already had a chuckle at her expense this morning. Cooling herself down, Gentleheart turned to face Cherrypaw once more - this time composed.
"Could you help me remove this… thorn," she hesitated once more, but her meow was sweet once more. "It's causing me a bit of trouble. I'm sure Shadownose has something I can put on afterwards…?" She stared around the den, flabbergasted. There were so many herbs. Secretly, she thanked StarClan she was never a medicine cat - there's no way she'd be able to remember all of that clearly. In the meantime, she shifted her attention to the young, spritely Cherrypaw, offering her paw up at the apprentice to attempt to remove the nasty thorn.

Cherrypaw shook a bit, "I-It's going to hurt, but okay.." She tried her best to get a hold of the thorn and ripped it out quickly, I hope getting it out fast is better than slowly.. She thought nervously, gulping. She set the thorn down in front of Gentleheart, "U-Um... You might want to throw it in the back of the dirt-place so no one else steps on it." Well, that is, if Gentleheart had actually stepped on it.. The apprentice thought. She quickly shook herself, Well, whether she stepped on it or not doesn't matter to me.. I just helped a cat!

♦ ♀ Gentleheart. RiverClan Warrior ♦ [/sup] Gentleheart let out a piercing yowl as Cherrypaw ripped the thorn from her front paw pad, cringing from the impact. She was certainly glad that the thorn was now free from her paw, but the pain afterwards still strung pretty strong. A bit of blood began to swell up from the punctured wound, making Gentleheart bend over to lick her aching paw. She still felt quite embarrassed from the foolish act that had happened this morning, but she was more glad to be rid of the thorn.
Her ears pricked alert as Cherrypaw mentioned another cat stepping on it, and she felt another rush of embarrassment, but attempted to hid it her best by looking to the side.
"I'll do that," she murmured, half under her breath; she did not want to reveal such a humorous story, especially to a little apprentice. After a moment of thought, she stared down at her paw, oozing little by little with blood, and her attention turned back to Cherrypaw.
"Uhm.. Cherrypaw, do you have anything to help me with this?" her sweet meow had returned, this time tinged with a bit of pain in her tone. She lifted up her paw, which the underside pad was dotted with blood that appeared to be increasing.

Cherrypaw flinched as Gentleheart asked her if she had anything to help her with.. Uhhh... What was I told? Um.. She thought, the names of herbs racing through her head. Though she was a new apprentice, Cherrypaw had eagerly learned as much as she could in the few days that she was a 'paw... "I-I think... I think I'm supposed to use marigold..." She replied, going to find where the medicine cats kept the herbs.
Observing each of the different kinds, Cherrypaw took what she thought was marigold and brought it to Gentleheart. "I think this is it..." Looking down at the leaf once again, Cherrypaw noticed it wasn't marigold, and instead was catmint. "Oh! Wait, that's catmint!" She took the leaf back and picked a different one, bringing it back. "Okay, now I'm sure this is the marigold!" She mewed, "Umm... It's to stop infections... And you're supposed to rub it on the wound..." She meowed, beginning to rub the leaf on Gentleheart's paw, hoping it would work and that she was right.

♦ ♀ Gentleheart. RiverClan Warrior ♦ [/sup] The grey-and-white she-cat's eyes went wide as Cherrypaw seemed troubled in deciding what it was that she needed. Where was Shadownose when you needed him? Gentleheart was very hesitant about this new situation, as she really did not want to be given something wrong and have to return later in the day, albeit in a worse condition than before. Since Shadownose was not available, she figured she may at least try whatever ointment or herb Cherrypaw had found.
Sniffing it cautiously, Gentleheart nodded her head as if telling Cherrypaw it was okay. After Cherrypaw rubbed the marigold leaves on her punctured paw pad, Gentleheart raised it to her mouth to give it a little. She gagged for a moment, not caring for the taste of marigold, but it appeared to be doing alright for her. She may have to spent most of the day in camp or patrolling since the paw was a bit too wounded to hunt, but Gentleheart was okay with that. The warrior glanced over at Cherrypaw with her emerald orbs.
"Thank you, Cherrypaw," she meowed sweetly as she placed her injured paw back onto the ground. "Where is Shadownose - do you know?" she meowed again, casually looking around the den and surrounding area. "Has he been good to you so far? He hasn't asked you too many questions yet, I hope. I swear that tomcat finds out everything!" she meowed, a bit amused and a bit annoyed as Gentleheart was never one to share in others' business personally unless required. She gave Cherrypaw a short, calm smile on her face, showing her thanks for just now.

RiverClan had been peaceful this fine season, and it was clear most of all on Stonybrook's face. He was often times overly serious but he had to be when assisting in the running of a clan or who would obey? The tom's gray pelt lingered out of the warrior's den with ease clenched in his maw he carried batches of old moss which he rid of outside of the clan walls. Clenched within his jaws now were fresh batches of moss that made his nose tingle ever so gently, he almost felt as if he would sneeze. Yet, another sound caught his attempt a yowl. Long ears raised skyward to catch the sound and following where his piercing amber eyes which settled on the medicine cat's den. He should have expected such, but Stonybrook was all about the facts. He waited several moments before releasing the new moss into the den and trotting to the medicine cat's den before deciding perhaps he should see what was going on. Those determined eyes fell on a very familiar face Gentleheart, and the little Cherrypaw. The tom stepped into the den silent as a mouse just to catch hold of end of their conversation, "He hasn't asked you too many questions yet, I hope. I swear that tomcat finds out everything!"
Clearing his throat to gather their attention, he smiled gently with a flicker of his long tail. 'It is wise for a high ranked to know all that he can, it helps protect his clan, and in Shadownose's case his friends and patients,' the deputy teased gently leaning his right ear playfully inward. Spotting the wound on his leader's sister, Stonybrook's eyes fell intense and noting of Shadownose's lack of appearance in the case concerned him some bit. 'Cherrypaw, could you chew some chamomile leaves and apply them to Gentleheart's wound it will aid in reducing the swelling and perhaps add some cobwebs to ease the bleeding, yes that will do well. Those white petals over there,' he mewed softly. He nodded at her already done work, and his tail's tip gently brushed her shoulder. 'You did well to apply marigold, Shadownose would be proud,' he murmured the word's softly. His tail slowly receding back against his haunches as he took a seat beside the two. 'Seems both of you have been up to something new today,'

♦ ♀ Gentleheart. RiverClan Warrior ♦ [/sup] Gentleheart's attention flickered as the grey tomcat entered. Stonybrook had always been a highly respectable cat, and Gentleheart was secretly proud of her sister for making such a capable cat RiverClan's deputy. Still, as she had been focused so heavily on Cherrypaw and their conversation, she could not help but jump a little as the tomcat cleared his throat. She took a moment calm down, giving her chest a quick lick to make her white fur slick back down. Her eyes refocused back up on the strong deputy.
"Yes, but that doesn't mean he needs to get into my business," she meowed lightly, hoping a bit that Stonybrook didn't hear or that he may have simply ignored her comment. Although Gentleheart was a kind she-cat with a sweet-sounding meow, she certainly had opinions about what she thought was right and wrong. Gossip and being nosy was definitely not her forte or anything that she condoned. Though the deputy certainly was correct - a medicine cat, or any leading cat by that matter, should know what is going on within the cats of his or her Clan. Information was important; Gentleheart just didn't want to admit that Shadownose was probably doing his snooping and questioning out of good reason. She liked being private. Possibly too much.
As Stonybrook looked at the grey she-cat's wounded paw, she felt embarrassment flush through her one more time. She looked away casually, moving her tail around her wounded paw to hide it. Then she proceeded to lick and groom her back fur, attempting to appear nonchalant. As Stonybrook instructed the apprentice on her medicine cat duties, Gentleheart's body softened and her emerald eyes stared at him in amazement.
"Where did you learn that? Did Shadownose teach you?" she meowed, her light tone finally back to normal, even somewhat astonished and interested. She removed her curled tail from her wounded paw and offered it to Cherrypaw for the young apprentice to tend to her wound once more.

The male didn't mean to startle either female but noting Gentleheart's reaction made him rethink it. Perhaps, he should have noted he was in their presence more....?.. Well, another question with another answer yet to be found, there always was tomorrow, yes? "Yes, but that doesn't mean he needs to get into my business," Naturally the deputy wanted to mew in the medicine cat's defense, but Stonybrook knew better than to argue with a she-cat much less an injured one at that. Instead, his lips curved in a timid smile and he gave her a slight nod with a playful chuckle tickling over his dark furred lips. Liquid amber orbs watched as the warrior's tongue gently rolled over the soft plumes of fur, it reminded him of so much of the river, and it brought yet another small, and he hoped an unnoticed smile.
Yet, he noticed she was shy? Oh, no not Gentleheart, more like embarrassed about her wound as she wrapped it gently into her own fur. Merely shaking his head, he nodded to the apprentice to proceed. "Where did you learn that? Did Shadownose teach you?" Agile orbs seemed to float to the female's face. It seemed not many knew the secrets of his liege. With the crooked white tip of his tail dotting along in the soft dirt and moss mix of the den floor, he seemed to flip the question over in his mind. Was this something he should really tell any cat? Gentleheart was not any cat, she was the leader's respectable sister, but still it was a family tradition that not many knew of.
'Well, I guess it's a family tradition in a way. Once a kit reaches apprenticeship and served two moons under his/her mentor, they are sent into the loner and free lands. They must survive,' the tom spoke the words softly as if balancing them on the ends of his tail, but his forepaws seemed eager floating along the sand base of the floor. 'It's that cat's responsibility to know how to survive on their own, if they succeed and return alive and well, warrior-hood is none to far, but it's only a family tradition, from one member to the other. One could say it's silly.' He teased softly, shaking his head with a solumn look set upon his face. His father often taught him how to treat thorns, for they always found the pads of the young tom. He had done just as Cherrypaw was now several times on his path to growth.

Cherrypaw answered Gentleheart's questions, "I think he's still in his nest... Talking too much? I dunno... Doesn't seem it to me," She looked down at her paws, knowing very well that she often got on her clanmates' nerves by 'talking too much'...
Hearing Stonybrook' advice, Cherrypaw dipped her head to the deputy and mewed, "Thanks! I never would've thought of that!" She went and got some chamomile and applied it gently to the once thorn-held paw. Going back to the store of herbs, Cherrypaw took some cobwebs and applied those as well. Sitting, the tabby enjoyed a breeze that slightly lifted her fur.
Upon hearing this tradition of Stonybrook's family, Cherrypaw's green eyes lit up with admiration, "Wow! How long did you have to stay in the wild? Did you meet any foxes? What about badgers? What kind of prey did you eat? Was there a lot of fish? I'd feel bad for you if you were stuck eating forest prey all that time.. I mean, forest prey is okay sometimes, but fish are just amazing!" The she-cat's voice trailed off as she continued talking.

"Wow! How long did you have to stay in the wild? Did you meet any foxes? What about badgers? What kind of prey did you eat? Was there a lot of fish? I'd feel bad for you if you were stuck eating forest prey all that time.. I mean, forest prey is okay sometimes, but fish are just amazing!" The tom was a little startled by the constant questions that seemed to shoot from the little apprentice's maw, but he knew, apprentices were all the same, even medicine apprentices it seemed. All eager, and awaiting knowledge, and still blundering happily into adult-hood. It caused a small crack to slip upon the male's maw. 'Well, it was three moons. Near the end of my training, all of my bloodline have their ceremonies delayed just so this can be accomplished. Since, there is no guarantee of that cat's return,' he murred the words through thickly furred lips gently pulling at each word to draw in the little apprentice's attention. He himself had always enjoyed stories of others, and it was clear little Cherrypaw did as well.
The gray-and-white warrior's tail gently flickered along the dirt and moss covered floor, before inching off his haunches to stand strong on all fours. 'Now, once I was released off into the loner lands. I saw a mother fox yes, and her newborns searching for what looked like a new den, it seemed a family of badgers had actually forced her out for it's younger where much older than that mother fox's cubs.' His blinding amber eyes searches the apprentice's face before flickering to Gentleheart's. His paws scattered along the den's floor before he moved around the two. 'Forest food was okay, but nothing as fine as fish, there is actually one area in the loner lands where there is many fish, it is called Looking Pool. A beautiful space, but loners often get a little annoyed that you can catch fish and not them, they just don't deserve such fine qualities. Don't worry, you'll be able to explore lots when your a full fledged medicine cat, you'll have to seek out your herbs, I'm sure Shadownose will show you all soon enough.' He offered a timid smile at Gentleheart, before brushing his tail along the apprentice's shoulder. 'Anyone would be proud to have such a dedicated apprentice as yourself,' he stated firmly.

♦ ♀ Gentleheart. RiverClan Warrior ♦ [/sup] Gentleheart listened to Stonybrook as he spoke of his apprenticeship days in the loner lands; a spark of astonishment lit in her green eyes. She would have never dared to attempt such a feat, but then again she wasn't near as strong-willed as their deputy. Looking back, she realized that Stonybrook had been gone for some time as an apprentice. Although she was about two moons younger than him, she could recall his absence from camp on an occasion or two.
She turned her attention toward the young medicine cat in-training. Cherrypaw was certainly a talkative cat, but even Gentleheart knew that she meant well. Gentleheart couldn't stand gossipers or any cat in her business, but she had been growing slightly fond of the young she-cat. As Cherrypaw looked down at her paws, Gentleheart offered a gentle smile at the young apprentice. She outstretched her paw as Cherrypaw went to work, wincing only slightly. It already felt much better. She moved her paw back and forth to stretch out the muscles a bit now that it was properly cared for.
A chuckle erupted from her furry lips as Cherrypaw went off on a ramble of questions. She truly was a young, darling little cat. The expression on Stonybrook's face to all of the questions made her chuckle erupt into a sweet laughter.
As Stonybrook began his story, even Gentleheart had her eyes locked onto him in attention. Wild foxes? What a scary thought. Gentleheart hated foxes most of all the forest life. They were sneaky, sly, and she thought they reeked worse than badgers. Her thoughts faded as he continued.
"Oh my - that's quite a ways out. I've heard of the Looking Pool, but never been to it myself," Gentleheart mewed lightly with a smile. "Some cats say if you stare into it during a full moon you'll see someone dear to you," she meowed, half to herself. Of course, she wasn't exactly the kind of cat to believe such nonsense. Even though she secretly held an ounce of faith for his occasion, she decided to add: "…But of course that's just kitten tales," with a nervous laugh following after it.
Feeling embarrassed for saying such a thing, Gentleheart began to groom her back flank for a nonexistent fly. After a moment to cool herself down, she glanced over at Cherrypaw. She was very bright, eager, and willing to learn - and picked up things fast as well. Gentleheart nodded with what Stonybrook said, offering Cherrypaw yet another one of her sweet smiles.

"Woah... Did it work? The Looking Pool?" Cherrypaw asked, her eyes wide in astonishment.. "Did the fox mother attack you? What about the badger? Was there a fight between them? How did it go? What were the cats in Riverclan's reactions when you came back? Was it scary?" She finally stopped asking questions, Oops... They probably think I'm a mouse-brain or something.. She thought, trying her best to keep her jaw shut.
